2014 KRRA Twosome Run Newsletter #1

Twosome Run - February 2, 2014

Highlights:
  • back to the 2012 course (see map below)
  • remember to get your timing chip pre-race in the school gym and wear it on your ankle (no chip, no time)
  • food, drinks, draw prizes, team awards
  • new for 2014! Top high school team and costume awards
  • race kit pickup Feb 1st 12-4pm at Runners' Choice or Sunday am at the race site.
It's almost twosome time for the Kingston Road Runners.  In our annual mid-winter event, runners race the 5k course as individuals for KRRA Race Series points, but also as "twosome" teams, for total-combined-time age-group and overall medals.  Also new this year is an award for the top high school twosome team!

Many thanks to those who have already registered or agreed to volunteer at the race! You are helping us to directly support health and wellness initiatives at area schools through the Limestone Learning Foundation.

We welcome registrations as mixed-gender or same-gender twosome teams or as an individual.  Please note, however, that medals and overall team awards are limited only to mixed-gender teams. All runners and volunteers are eligible for an assortment of random draw prizes.and (new this year) prizes for best Groundhog Day, Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine's-themed costumes.

The 5k race begins at 10:30am on MacDonnell Street beside the Winston Churchill Public School parking lot.  Race day registration is available (slightly higher fees apply), but will close promptly at 10:00am!  Full race details available at http://www.krra.org/twosome.

Please avoid parking on the race course (i.e. adjacent to the school on MacDonnell or Earl Streets) or in the school parking lot..  We appreciate your cooperation.  There is plenty of  free street parking nearby without impacting runners in the first 500m of the race.

If you can't race, please consider volunteering for the event.  If you can help us out on race day, please contact Peter Ellis at peter_s_ellis@sympatico.ca.

After the race, be sure to join us in the Winston Churchill Public School gym for snacks and refreshments (hot and cold) provided by Agnew Foods (Tim Horton's), Diamond Hotels, RBC Dominion Securities (Josee Therriault) and Culligan Water.   We also expect Runners' Choice to have a small setup in the gym for any last minute pre-race needs.

Winter Footing
Winter running (and racing) can mean slippery footing from time-to-time.  Your local running store likely carries a slip-on product designed to give more traction than your regular shoe provides.  However, the budget-minded (and handy) runner can consider making their own winter "spikes" using an older pair of running shoes and a few hex-headed sheet metal screws.  The "how-to" instructions for this can be found at www.skyrunner.com/screwshoe.htm.  Happy (and safe) running!

Limestone Race Weekend
Join us on April 26th and 27th for event #3 in the KRRA Race Series - Limestone Race Weekend!  There's something for everyone!
  • Saturday, April 26, City Park (Bagot Street)
    • 3:45pm, Start2Finish 3k for kids
    • 5:00pm, KGH Trauma 10k
  • Sunday, April 27, Confederation Park (City Hall)
    • 9:30am, 5k and Half Marathon
